Personal Statement

I have always had an interest in art, even from a young age when my mum would get the crafts box out and we would make things together. I would also make my own Christmas cards for certain people, using characters I liked as I reference. I enjoy being creative, and I am pleased to be able to pass this down to my two children.

Only recently have I decided what I completely want to do - that being character design and storyboarding for most of the part, whilst I also want to build up to publishing my own colouring book and story book following that.

In recent years, I have felt both my style and confidence in my work had improved; I still have ups and downs, but am learning to cope better with the downs. Due to going to Blackpool School of Arts, I feel my knowledge of the industry has increased dramatically.

I particularly enjoy drawing characters traditionally but also find sketching and finalising more enjoyable when digitally working on it, especially since it is more portable. When working traditionally, I tend to use pencil, fineliner and alcohol markers, whilst digitally I use an Ipad with the software Procreate. I find Procreate allows me to experiment more with different brushes without spending too much money on products I may not use again.
